GE Healthcare, Burlington, VT                                                                                       2007 – 2009

Program Leader

Managed multiple software technology programs to develop, deliver, service, and support patient and physicians portal applications.  Systems are currently in use at multiple large integrated delivery networks throughout the US.  Responsibilities included: time, cost, and quality on all programs.

  • Managed a development team and coordinated the collaboration across multiple integrated products to develop patient and provider portal solutions for Electronic Medical Record and financial systems.  Delivered two sequential versions of the product to the service and support team.  Systems have been deployed successfully at four large hospital networks with a plan to upgrade eleven more.
  • Completed a quality process overhaul for the entire program, implementing an agile approach to development and FDA compliant quality management system.  Post program analysis showed a 65% reduction in the defect rate for new product development.

GE Global Research, Niskayuna, NY                                                                           1997 – 2007

Computer Scientist – Computational Biology and Biostatistics

Led and/or consulted on multiple research programs across a diverse set of GE businesses, including GE Energy, GE Healthcare, NBC, and GE Plastics. The primary research focus included algorithms, image processing and understanding, decision support, biostatistics, material science, and broadcast automation.

  • Managed the development of technology for digital broadcast operations at NBC.  Led the effort to research, develop, and deploy integrated technology for conversion from analog broadcast to HD at NBC.  A multi-year program, resulting in a system that is currently deployed and in use across multiple broadcast and cable stations.
  • Led team to develop automated decision systems for colon and lung cancer, utilizing advanced image processing and statistical analysis of patient data.  System was delivered and deployed at the Medical University of South Carolina and St Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo.
  • Coordinated a large multiyear study in the area of breast cancer to utilize genomic, proteomic, and demographic data to determine breast cancer likelihood.  The team developed a multivariate model of breast cancer risk that is being clinically evaluated at multiple clinical sites.

Westinghouse, Schenectady, NY                                                                                    1995 – 1997

Lead Software Engineer

Led effort to develop the next generation of software for instrumentation and control of naval nuclear systems under a classified government program.  Coordinated software quality compliance to DoD MIL-STD-498, to establish uniform requirements for software development and documentation.

GE Power Systems, Schenectady, NY                                                                             1993 – 1995

Leader Engineering Business Systems

Managed infrastructure changes in support of turbine design across the entire steam turbine design team at GE Energy.

  • Managed a team in development, deployment and support of engineering systems for automated design of large steam turbines.  The replacement of several hundred engineering workstations and supporting software, including an integrated design system, resulted in a significant improvement in productivity and turbine design reuse.
  • Designed and developed software for automated parametric blade design used in large steam turbine manufacturing applications, increasing productivity of design team and minimization of manual design errors.
  • Coordinated ISO 9001 review and compliance for all design software in the steam turbine engineering department.

GE Aircraft Engines, Cincinnati, OH                                                                             1987 – 1993

Systems Engineer

Acted as a lead engineer or a systems analyst for an integrated team of hardware and software engineers. Designed, developed, and deployed non-destructive x-ray inspection systems for jet engine components at multiple GE and third party manufacturing facilities.

  • Led a software team to design and implement an automated system at NASA for inspection of blades in the space shuttle main engine turbo pump using computed tomography (CAT scan), 3D edge detection, and geometric analysis of blade dimensions from the edge detected images.  The System was adopted for use as a replacement for manual inspection process, resulting in improved repeatability and precision of dimensional analysis for these components.
  • Designed and developed software for automated inspection of aircraft engine components using robotics, computed tomography (CAT scan), and image analysis software.  The integrated software system replaced multiple manual processes resulting in a 100-fold improvement in throughput of component quality inspection for GE jet engines.
  • Designed, developed, deployed, and supported automated systems for manufacture of jet engine components, resulting in reduced cycle time in production and inspection of components.

GE Industrial systems, Albany, NY                                                                             1984 – 1987

Application Engineer

Led the integration and deployment of factory automation systems at multiple GE customers.  Systems were deployed at Sikorsky Helicopters and GE Aircraft Engines.  The systems were used to control numerical controlled machining processes and perform shop floor tracking, resulting in elimination of multiple manual processes and measurable productivity improvements.
